Mothers Are Everything

I am lucky enough to frequently have the opportunity to photograph mothers. New mothers and their precious gift to the world, mothers and their wild - yet perfect little ones, mothers and their adult children, grandmothers and their grand babies, my mother.

Michelle + Lillian /// The little one who made my best friend a mamma.

I am always impressed and completely awe-struck at the way in which they handle every tear and every tantrum, every question and every giggle, and every full sprint in the opposite direction of the camera.

But mostly, I’m impressed by their strength. By the way they always keep it all together - or at least pretend that they do, even when none of it - is “together". By the way they always seem to have all the answers, to everything…even when they don’t.

The way they influence everything their kids do and every decision they make, whether they mean to or not. And the way their children simultaneously influence everything they do and every decision they make, even when they don’t know they're doing it and can’t even comprehend appreciating it.

Mothers Are Everything. /// Mine is MY everything. (Yes, I bought us matching PJs and staged a photoshoot with a timer and my camera on a stack of books.)
